Getting to see your favorite artist perform on stage can be a life-changing experience and new research is showing just how important that is to people around the world. Live Nation’s “Living for Live” report has just come out, revealing that live music has overtaken everything from sports to film, and even sex to be the world’s favorite form of entertainment.
For the report, the company surveyed 40-thousand people in 15 countries about how they spend their time and connect with others. When asked to choose one type of entertainment for life, 39% picked live music, beating both pro sports events (14%) and movies in theaters (17%). And more than twice as many people would choose to see their favorite artist in concert (70%) over having sex (30%)
- Live music is so important to fans, 75% say they plan their calendars early based on shows.
- For 77%, the crowd makes them feel a part of something bigger and 79% say what they wear is a part of that. Half plan their outfits weeks in advance.
- Nearly six in 10 travel for shows every year and 70% make travel plans weeks ahead.
- Fans are willing to go great distances to see their favorite artists. Last year, they traveled 40-billion miles for concerts. That’s equal to 83-thousand trips to the moon!
- In this age of virtual everything, 93% of fans crave real experiences over digital ones and 80% say they’d rather spend money on experiences than things.
- More than three-quarters (76%) of fans are interested in live events headlined by women and proof of that is the record-setting shows led by favorite female artists.
- Beyoncé’s “Cowboy Carter World Tour” is the highest-grossing country tour ever. Olivia Rodrigo had the biggest crowd at Lollapalooza, and Karol G set Spain’s all-time ticket record. Lady Gaga also just made history in Brazil with the biggest concert ever by a female artist.⠀
