If you're thinking about going BIG for Mother's Day this year, maybe spoiling mom with a new Buick or something, consider this:

Most mothers do NOT want you to drop big money on them for Mother's Day. Lending Tree conducted a survey on what moms want, and 36% said they'd like a CARD. That was the most popular response.

32% said they just want "quality time" with their kids, and 29% want flowers or other plants. But not surprisingly, a lot of people aren't listening to their moms.

Americans will spend an average of $225 on Mother's Day gifts this year, up from $219 last year. 57% of people do plan to get mom a card, but only 21% of those buying a gift also plan to spend quality time with mom.

And some people are planning to spend more than they can afford. 33% of Americans say they might take on debt buying Mother's Day gifts.

But again, 78% of moms don't even expect their kids to spend $50. And 20% of them admit they've been disappointed by Mother's Day gifts in the past.
