Salvation Army's Thanksgiving Meal

Salvation Army

EVERYONE DESERVES A FULL BELLY & WARM HEART

Join The Salvation Army Tucson at their Hospitality House in providing a warm Thanksgiving meal on Thursday, November 23 to those in need. Many less fortunate people living in the Tucson community are currently experiencing homelessness, and we want to ensure that everyone can enjoy a Thanksgiving dinner. Inside and outside seating will be available, as well as Kids Unlimited singing and dancing inside on the stage and the Ole Pueblo Brass Band playing outside.

The Salvation Army Tucson started the annual community Thanksgiving Meal in 1984. It consists of roasted turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, vegetables, cranberry sauce, rolls, and pumpkin pie for dessert. The meal will be prepared and served at 1002 North Main Avenue by over 200 dedicated volunteers who will cook, set up, serve, and clean up after the event. Volunteer online registration opens Wednesday, November 1, and you may register at the website www.salvationarmytucson.org and click on the volunteer link.

In addition to volunteering in the days leading up to Thanksgiving and on Thanksgiving Day, The Salvation Army needs donations from the community to provide this meal. Items needed include turkeys, canned vegetables (i.e., carrots, corn, green beans, yams), canned cranberry sauce, canned pumpkin or fruit pie filling, prepared pie crust, boxed stuffing, cornbread mix, boxed mashed potatoes, gravy packets, boxed macaroni and cheese, bags of tea or apple cider packets. Please contact Kristin Ohman, Volunteer Coordinator, at (520) 448-3997 to arrange for the drop-off of donated items.

“For many people, this may be the only Thanksgiving meal they get,” said Captain Christopher Kim, city coordinator for The Salvation Army Tucson. “We served about 600 people in 2022, and we’re expecting attendance to be even higher this year. In addition to the Thanksgiving lunch, St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church is providing sack lunches for each person to take with them. Being a part of this day warms my heart as I see the enjoyment and appreciation on each person’s face.”
