A private memorial for NAOMI JUDD was held last Saturday in Nashville. There were a few hundred invited guests, including Dolly Parton, Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Brandi Carlile, and Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead.
It was hosted by WYNONNA and ASHLEY JUDD, and it was exactly the service their mom wanted. Ashley told everyone, quote, "She had it written down, and so she took the guesswork out of it for us, which we thank her for." There were prayers and stories.
Dolly said, quote, "We are family. When it's family, you forgive them, you accept them. They're a mirror of the worst and best in you. You always try to do your best, and they always put you to the test, and you pray for God to do the rest."
And there was plenty of music. Ricky Skaggs performed "Talk About Suffering", Bob Weir did "Ripple" . . . and Vince Gill sang The Stanley Brothers song, "Drifting Too Far from the Shore". Naomi requested that one in her instructions.
Brandi Carlile closed it out with "Love Can Build a Bridge", which she was supposed to sing at the Judds Hall of Fame induction but couldn't because she tested positive for COVID-19.
