Chicken Wing Shortage!

First it was toilet paper. Then we couldn't find paper towels. We've even had a Grapenuts shortage but this?! NOT THE CHICKEN WINGS! Chicken wings are the latest thing to face a shortage due to the pandemic.

Not only are restaurants coast to coast having difficulty getting chicken wings, but the price has sky rocketed! Up to almost $3 per pound from and average o $1.10 pre-pandemic.

Experts say several things are attributing to the shortage. A spike in take-out orders and the crazy winter storms in Texas suffered early 2021.

Tom Super is a spokesperson for the National Chicken Council. According to Business Insider, he said that while wing supplies are tight, he wouldn't call the situation a shortage. Super explaind why the short supply was directly related to the winter storms that struck Texas earlier this year.

"Chicken producers are doing everything they can to overcome the devastating impact of Mother Nature when she inflicted the once-in-a-lifetime winter storm on Texas and nearby states — major chicken producing regions," Super said according to the Insider. "It will take time and effort to eventually replace the impacted hatchery supply flocks in that region."

Don't worry America. This isn't the first time we've experienced a Chicken Wing shortage (se video below) and it won't be our last!
